You Never Forget Your First Love

Now I am out of my teens I feel like I’ve loved beauty and makeup for a lifetime, but looking back on when I was growing up my obsession did grow pretty quickly from the age of about 14 onwards. Now that I think about it, it was a few special products (in my younger mind) that were the ones that really fueled the makeup-obsessed fire. Excluding the super orange concealer I didn’t quite know what to do with here are my top picks that would still make the cut today.

The “if I’m careful teachers will not notice that I’m wearing this, except my friends will because it looks so good” Mascara
Rimmel Extra Super Lash Lash Building Mascara
This mascara was a favourite of my younger self because it was buildable and gave a natural look. And if you’re at a school with a no makeup policy that is exactly what you’re after!

The “first serious bold lip” Red lipstick
Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick in 230 Red Fever
This was my first grownup lip product. I picked it because Georgia May Jagger was the face of this line and she has similar colouring to me. Although I have lots of red lipsticks that I love now this one will always have a special place in my heart. I was disappointed to see that Rimmel is discontinuing this formula so I picked up a spare before they disappear!

The “ this is what you do right?” Black eyeliner
Rimmel Soft Coal Kajal Eyeliner
I rarely use eyeliner these days, and when I do it usually isn’t black. That being said, the soft coal is lovely and even though this was my second one I used it to death. (As you can see from the lack of writing left on the pencil).

The “why isn’t this covering up my dark circles?” Powder
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder
This powder is a favourite in the beauty world and I know why. As you can see I have well and truly hit pan on this one and desperately need to repurchase. Although it couldn’t cover my dark circles like I hoped it would when I was 14, it is an amazing non cakey pressed powder that I still use five years later. That’s staying power.

Funnily enough I didn’t realize until I was putting this post together that all these products are from Rimmel. The lure of the ‘London Look’ must have swayed me!

What beauty products did you first fall for?
Any products that have lasted the distance?
