Reading is
definitely one of my favourite things to do, but since one of my majors at university
is literary theory I sometimes feel like the only texts I read are more for
work than pleasure. This month, and hopefully from now on, I’m making an effort
to read more for pleasure especially on my favourite subject: beauty.
First up is Amazing
Face by Zoe Foster. To be honest I
am constantly thumbing through this book even though I probably know it by
heart I have read it so many times. Zoe Foster was probably the first beauty
writer I encountered and I love all of her work. I read her blog fruitybeauty
religiously and plan to become her when I grow up. Amazing Face includes
complete looks, including hair and makeup, to replicate, product specific
recommendations to suit every skin tone and preference and just plain handy
tips and tricks she has learnt from the best. There is also an Amazing Face app,
which I have and I can’t wait for the update for some more content! Zoe’s voice
is really personable and funny and makes you wish she was your best friend. Plus
she is all about sun protection which is kind if my jam as a super pale lady. Basically,
if you haven’t read this book you should.
This one might be
more of a fashion read than a beauty one but I had to include it anyway. I am
really enjoying Grace A Memoir by Grace Coddington almost to the point
of reading the end very slowly so it doesn’t finish! I think most people fell
in love with Grace when she appeared in (one of my favourite moves) The
September Issue. Her memoirs are very touching and full of the rich, famous
and cultured people who she met along her journey to become Creative Director
at American Vogue after being a model and photographers’ assistant. Grace has a
gentle and friendly style of writing and she is just as lovely as she came
across in The September Issue. Her life story is inspiring and made me
nostalgic for a period of fashion and photography from long before I was born.
Though I don’t
read Cosmopolitan every month I am a sucker for the Priceline Winter
Beauty & Health Guide that comes with the August issue so I had to get
it. The best part of the Priceline freebie magazine is that all the products
that are used and recommended in there have can be easily found… at Priceline
(shocker). Their winter looks and
recommendations for health and beauty aren’t groundbreaking but it’s still nice
to see the products from the store (that are usually reasonably priced) in
action.
Hopefully I will
find some more beauty and fashion reads to enjoy and share!
What beauty reads
have you read lately?
Any recommendations?
