As much as I would
love to boast a makeup collection full of luxury products as a student that
just isn’t my reality. But honestly even if I had the money I think I would
still spend most of my pennies on the budget beauty buys that I can get at a
Priceline or a chemist. Even ‘drugstore’ makeup is expensive in Australia so it
takes a quality product or a lovely gift for me to spend the big bucks and get
a luxury item. Happily for the penny
pinchers and the students out there I think I have found a pretty good budget
dupe for a luxury product!

Colorburst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart, YSL Voluptè Sheer Candy Glossy Balm in
Luscious Cherry
|
For Christmas last
year my perfect boyfriend bought me the YSL Voluptè Sheer Candy Glossy Balm
in 6 Luscious Cherry $49.00. First of all, the packaging: its simply
beautiful. It’s so beautiful I didn’t want to touch it. Everything about the
look of this lipstick is elegant and perfect and I always feel very special pulling
this one out of my handbag for a touch up. Then there is the scent; it is sweet
like candy (duh) but not sickly like a fake chemical cherry smell. The sheer
red shade is a tad blue toned and is an easy way to add a pop of colour to a
look.
Now my budget
alternative; the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 070 Cherry Tart $21.95 .
As you can see from the swatches above the shade is almost identical! I would
say Cherry Tart is slightly more orange toned but the sheer formula makes this
a lot less obvious. The Lip Butter’s packaging doesn’t hold a candle to the
Voluptè Sheer Candy even though it isn’t cheap and flimsy. I do love the Lip
Butter packaging and formula and have a fair few in my collection. Unlike YSL Revlon is often on sale or part of a deal so it isn’t hard to avoid paying
the full price.
Both the lipsticks
wear well and don’t dry out my lips. Like any sheer lipstick they do fade with
wear and leave a slight stain. Obviously the YSL wins the race because it is so
beautiful and the packaging and formula are flawless, but if I were spending my
own money I would definitely get the Lip Butter!
Would you spend
the money on the luxury product?
Or have any dupes
to help me save my pennies?
i can't believe how expensive the revlon ones are for you! that works out at like £15, in the UK, they're only like £6.49...that's crazy! you have a great boyfriend to get you the YSL :) xx
ReplyDeleteI know its crazy how expensive products are here! You sort of think you might as well get a more luxurious brand if you're spending the money anyway! I know i am lucky he tries to get me gifts he knows i want but would have trouble spending my own money on haha:) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. I was really thinking (for a moment) on splurging on a YSL Volupte Sheer Candy, but wanted to see if they are any similar to the Revlon Lip butters. So after reading a few of my fellow bloggers reviews, i've decided to save the money for another beauty item. Sure the packaging is amazing - it's a luxury product and that is what we mainly pay here. But as a gift, it's so amazing. So cheers to the big heart of your boyfrined! :)

I have so many of the lip butters and really like them, I kind of think the YSL would be worth it though if just for the packaging!
